Uniting Imams for a Stronger Community in Michigan
The Imams Council of Michigan brings together more than 35 imams representing Islamic centers throughout Southeast Michigan. The Imams Council of Michigan (ICM) is a coalition of Muslim religious leaders dedicated to supporting local Imams, providing scholarship and guidance to the community, and addressing personal and social issues. ICM promotes unity and harmony among Michigan’s diverse Muslim community, upholds the Muslim Code of Honor, and advocates for equality, justice, positive change, and collaboration in society.
The Imams Council welcomes questions and comments from the community. Its members regularly meet with federal, state, and local officials and conduct ongoing training workshops in areas such as marriage counseling, domestic violence identification, substance abuse awareness, mental health first aid, and more.
Community Engagement
In 2007, the Council’s imams created the historic Muslim Code of Honor, which emphasizes mutual respect among all Muslims, regardless of sect or ethnicity, and the importance of working together through a shared love of God and His Prophet.
The current Co-Chairs of the Council are Imam Mustapha Elturk and Imam Mohammed Elahi. The Executive Secretary is Imam Ayham MishMishan, and the Treasurer is Imam Ishack Samoura
